It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Vernell “Nell” Fortner, a cherished mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. Nell passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 27th, 2024, at the age of 96.
Nell was born on Sunday, October 21, 1928, in Alabama. She was the daughter of the late I.V. Hale and Lona Hale. She was also preceded in death by her beloved husband of 65 years, Elbert Fortner, her son Roger Fortner, and seven siblings.
Nell dedicated her life to caring for her family and creating a welcoming home. Her love for her church and church family was evident in her active participation and unwavering faith. She was an exceptional cook, known for her delicious family dinners that brought loved ones together and created lasting memories.
Nell is survived by her son Michael Fortner (Ann); four grandchildren, Amy Belinfante (Jay), Jason Fortner (Alyssa), Chris Fortner, and Matt Fortner—and seven great-grandchildren. She will be lovingly remembered for her kindness and generosity by many family members and friends.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to those who have supported and offered condolences. Arrangements are by Roy Davis Funeral Home.
Nell Fortner will be deeply and profoundly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her spirit will forever illuminate the hearts of those she cherished, and we find solace in the knowledge that she now rests in eternal peace.
