Sara Whitehead, 78 of Austell, passed away Wednesday, January 5, 2022. She is survived by her children, Jane (Jerry) Anderson of Austell, Julie (Carlos) Escobar of Smyrna and Frankie (Johnsi) Whitehead of Temple; grandchildren, Gwendolyn Shearer, Lt. Daniel (Mary) Anderson, Zachary Shearer and Alix Whitehead; great granddaughter, Abigail Anderson; brothers and sister, James Mitchell, J.D. Mitchell and Linda Faye Babbs, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leroy Whitehead; parents, Jim D. and Willie Ruth Mitchell; and sisters, Nancy Ruth Mitchell, Catherine Strickland, Ruby Gaines and Joann Mitchell. Mrs. Whitehead was full of love and full of life. She loved her children and the love for her family grew with her grandchildren and great grandchild. She enjoyed gardening and had a green thumb that let her grow anything. She could turn a small sprout into a beautiful plant by dabbing it in the ground. She had a talent for sewing and made costumes for her grandkids. She did ceramics for many years, turning some pieces into lamps by adding electrical components herself. Family was important to Mrs. Whitehead. She enjoyed cooking for them and taught her daughters to cook the same delicious meals she made. She was a natural storyteller who could easily make up bedtime stories. She loved giving, would give you the shirt off her back or the jewelry she was wearing. As a “jewelry freak” she didn’t care if it was cheap or expensive, she loved wearing it. Being a loving person didn’t stop her from telling it like it is. She could be brutally honest, but she would stick up for you when necessary. She wouldn’t hesitate to be at the school to support a grandchild if there was a problem. Sara Whitehead will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. She was beautiful on the inside and the outside and took care to always look her best. A visitation will be held from 2 to 6 pm, Saturday, January 8, at Roy Davis Funeral Home. Visitation will be held from 11 am to 2 pm Tuesday, January 11, at Deaton Funeral Home in Belmont, MS, followed by a funeral service at 2:00 pm. Burial will be at Old Bethel Cemetery in Belmont.
