R. Edward Johnson, former resident of Lithia Springs, died April 27, 2016 from congestive heart failure at the Grace Senior Living of Douglasville, where he had been a resident for the last few months. Born in 1928, Edward suffered early debilitating childhood illness, polio and epilepsy.These illnesses placed obstacles in his path.However, they were obstacles overcome with determination and a stubborn will to be a productive member of society. Those who knew him will long remember his laugh and his love of family and community.He worked until his retirement a the Arrow Shirt Company. Edward Johnson served as the Past Master of Austell Lodge No. 12 F&AM and was a past Worthy Patron of the Austell Chapter No 314, Order of the Eastern Star. He was an enthusiastic member of the Douglasville First United Methodist Church where he was active in the Brotherhood Class. Following a hip injury Edward moved to the Coosa Senior Living village in Calhoun, GA, where he could continue to live independently while being near family.He returned to Douglas county as his health recently declined and became a resident of the Grace Senior Living. A native ofAtlanta, Georgia, Edward Johnson was born to the late Lyndon and Ruby Johnson on June 3, 1928.In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Sarah Brown Johnson who passed in March of 2001. He is survived by a niece, Robin Potter of Edgewater, Maryland; a nephew, Guy Kent of Calhoun, GA, two great nieces,, six great-great nieces and five great-great nephews. Funeral Service willbe held 2:00 Thursday at Roy Davis Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. John Pinson, Senior Pastor of the Douglasville first United Methodist Church will lead the service with the Reverend Guy Kent, retired Elder of the North Georgia Conference assisting. Pall bearers will be members of the Brotherhood Class of the First United Methodist Church of Douglasville.The Austell Lodge No. 12 F&AM will conduct Masonic rites at thegraveside ceremony; Douglasville City Cemetery.Visitationwill be12:00 noon Thursday until time of service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers the family has suggested donations be made to the Farmville United Methodist Church Trustee's Fund, 6906 Fairmount Highway, Calhoun, Georgia 30701 or to a charity of the giver's choice.
