Oliver Devan Mitchell passed away peacefully surrounded by his family and friends on August 5, 2016 after courageously battling cancer.Mr. Mitchell was born to James and Vera Estelle Mitchell in 1948.He leaves to cherish his loving memory, a daughter, Sarah (Timothy) McMichen of Temple, Georgia; three step-sons; and a host of family, friends and neighbors.During Vietnam, Mr. Mitchell proudly served in the US Army as a door gunner, attaining the rank of Sargent.During his tours in Vietnam, he achieved many medals and commendations, including two bronze stars.Mr. Mitchell loved all outdoor activities but hunting and fishing were his favorites.Because he was a truck driver and spent countless days and hours on the road, he enjoyed watching various motor sports—NASCAR in particular. The family invites you to join them as they celebrate the life of Mr. Mitchell on Saturday, August 13, 2016 at 2:00 pm at the Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Marietta, Georgia.The family will receive friends for a visitation at 1:00 pm prior to the start of the service.Mr. Mitchell will be buried with full military honors at Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, Georgia.
