It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Lillie Mae Gurley, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and cherished friend. Lillie Mae passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 27th, 2025, at the age of 92, in her home in Mableton, GA.
Lillie Mae was born on Friday, June 10th, 1932, in Rome, GA, to Oscar Lee Pass and Stella Pass. She was the second oldest of twelve siblings, all of whom preceded her in death. Lillie Mae was also preceded in death by her devoted husband of 62 years, Gordon Eugene Gurley.
A dedicated homemaker, Lillie Mae was the heart of her family, providing love and support to her children: Bobby Eugene Gurley, Amerilus Ann Gurley, Eva Marie Taylor (Charles), and Tommy Ray Gurley (Tabitha). Her legacy continues through her four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, who brought immense joy to her life. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and a host of other family members and friends who will miss her dearly.
Lillie Mae was a trailblazer in her community, serving on the Mableton Tigers Youth Association Board of Directors for two years. She made history as the first female head coach of the Mableton Braves little league baseball team from 1977 to 1984, leading them to the State Championship Games two years in a row. Lillie was allowed to attend a private girl school in high school in Rome, Georgia under a scholarship as a player and a coach of their basketball team. Also, in 1970, she was a coach and player in a women’s league basketball team, the Kennesaw Cannonballs. She was 37 when she played for the Cannonballs.
Her passion for music was evident as she managed her son Tommy during part of his music career, supporting his artistic endeavors with pride.
Lillie Mae's life was a testament to her strength, resilience, and unwavering love for her family and community. Her memory will be cherished by all who knew her.
Arrangements for Lillie Mae Gurley are being handled by Roy Davis Funeral Home. A celebration of her life will be held to honor her remarkable journey and the indelible mark she left in the hearts of many.
May she rest in peace, in the arms of Jesus, forever remembered and loved.
