John William Helms

John William “Jay” Helms, was born in Carroll County, Georgia on April 14, 1925 to the late Leona Akins and Marvin Helms.He died on Wednesday, January 5, 2011.Jay was baptized at Pleasant View Baptist Church as a very young man.He was ordained as a Deacon on September 3, 1961 at Davis Chapel Baptist Church, Austell.He was a current, active member of Calvary Baptist Church in Austell.Jay was married to the love of his life Syble Sticher on March 29, 1947.It is only fitting that she was by his side at the time of his transition to his next life.Jay leaves to cherish his memories, his wife Syble; sons, Randy (Janet) Helms, Rick Helms, Mike (Barbara) Helms, daughter, Pam (Dave) Reynolds; grandchildren, Shelly, Preston, Mandy, Scott, Melissa, Kyle, Ryan; nine great grandchildren; and two sisters, Ruby Richardson and Mary Black.Plus, many other family members and cherished friends.He is united in Heaven with beloved granddaughters, Kristy and Jennifer.Jay loved life and lived it to the fullest.Anyone who had the pleasure of meeting him would say that he was a very kind and giving man.He was devoted to his wife and children; and he took his responsibilities as a husband and father seriously. Some day we, the family will be united again.Funeral service will be held Saturday, 1 pm at Roy Davis Funeral Home with Rev. Chris Humphries officiating.Interment, Sunrise MemorialGardens.The family will receive friends Friday from 2 pm until 4 pm and 6 pm until 8 pm at the funeral home.
