James “Jimmy” Edward Cobb, 71, of Commerce, Georgia, passed away on May 28, 2023. He was born on Jan. 24, 1952 in Charlotte, NC, to Belle and Raymond Cobb. Jimmy moved with his family to Georgia as a child.
From a young age, Jimmy was driven by a passion for creating music and believed that he was put upon this earth to do so. While attending Sandy Springs High School, he formed the band Radar with several school friends, which would continue to be an outlet for his creative activity throughout his life and foster many of his closest friendships. After graduating high school, he would go on to play in several other bands, most notably as the bass player and occasional songwriter for the band Starbuck, appearing on television and touring across the country. The work he was most proud of was his orchestral composition, producing 4 complete symphonies and many other small pieces and arrangements. He was also proud of producing 3 complete children who carry on parts of his soul. While holding other odd jobs throughout the years, Jimmy was primarily known as a musician, a father, a husband, a grandfather, a stepfather, an uncle, and a friend of surpassing warmth, intelligence, and humor. He will be sorely missed.
He is preceded in death by his parents and his older brothers, Ray and David.
Jimmy is survived by his wife of 19 years, Peggy Goodnight; his daughter Courtney (Danny) Kale, and her children Lucy Belle, Dani Rae, and Dek; his sons James Cobb and Preston Cobb; his stepson Drew Scott; and his stepdaughters Kris Smith and Kelly (Evan) Williams and their families.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 pm, Saturday, June 10 at Roy Davis Funeral Home in Austell, Ga to say goodbye to his body before it is cremated, as was his wish.
