Jean Newton

May 11, 1933 — March 28, 2025

Jean Odom Newton, 91, peacefully went to be with the Lord on March 28, 2025 at her home in Mableton, Georgia.  She was born on May 11, 1933 in Gilbertown, Alabama.

She attended college in Montevallo, Alabama where she studied to be a secretary. She loved being a homemaker and military wife, traveling around the country and overseas. In addition to raising four children, she loved to sew, cook, and play the piano. She was a born again Christian and member of Covenant Church in Smyrna. She was an accomplished canasta player at the Freeman Poole Senior Center and loved beating everyone at Scrabble! She retired from a long career at the Centers for Disease Control in Atlanta.

She is survived by her son, Mike Lawley (Joni), daughters, Pam Brown, Lisa Ison, Beth Waller (Danny), stepson Dave Newton, 8 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by both parents and 3 siblings and former husbands, Serge M. Lawley and Kenneth G. Newton.

The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to “Team Newton” – the wonderful caregivers who made it possible to keep our mother comfortably at home: Agape Hospice, Cynthia Tolbert, Jeanette Conner, Charlene Gaines, Pam Arrington and Mariella Sorrells.

The family will have a private memorial service at a date to be determined.
