Funeral services for Helen Joyce Fulmer Byars, 67, of Aiken, will be held three p.m., Sunday, October 18, 2009, Couchton Baptist Church, with burial in Windsor Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from five to eight p.m. Saturday, October 17 at Folk Funeral Home, Williston, SC. The Sunrays Sunday School class will serve as Honorary Pallbearers. Mrs. Byars died Thursday, October 15, 2009 after an extended illness. Born in Aiken County, she was a daughter of Sammie Rembert Fulmer and Dessie Lee Baughman Fulmer. She was a buyer for Belk Department Store, a member of Couchton Baptist Church, member & teacher Sunrays Sunday School class, a Sunday School teacher for the primary and adult departments, GA & RA leader and a member of the WMU. She founded Ladies Auxiliary of Couchton, Fire & Rescue Department and was a member of Daughters of the Confederate Rose. Survivors include her loving husband of 48 years, Wendell Bennett Byars; daughters, Juanita B. (Ken) Bell and Lisa B. Cook all of Aiken; sons, John Wendell (Tammy) Byars of Auburn, WA, Daniel “Danny” Byars of Douglasville, GA, Robbie Byars, Dave Byars and Brantley Byars, all of Aiken; daughter-in-law, Roxanne Byars; sister, Katherine Sheppard of Wagener; brothers, Donald Fulmer of North Augusta, Carol Fulmer of Clearwater; sixteen grandchildren; six great grandchildren.
