Geraldine T. Wood of Mableton passed away Thursday, January 6, 2022, one day before her 102nd birthday. She is survived by her son, Lamar (Sue) Wood of Mableton; grandchildren, Lori (David) Lebo of Hiram, Lisa (John) Fennell of Covington and Larry Wood of Mableton; great grandchildren, Chase Hunnings, Brooke Oxendine, Taylor Ellis, Courtney Heimlich, Allison Geckeler, Shane Hammontree, Korey Wood, Kalee Beauchamp, Hunter Wood, Shelby Duong and Brittany Wood, and 22 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Felton Wood; parents, Allen and Isabela Turner; brothers, Gene Turner, Allen Turner and Joe Turner; sister, Margie Partain; daughter, Donna Hall, and granddaughter, Tammy Hammontree. Mrs. Wood was born in Atlanta and lived a long life in Atlanta and Mableton. She was an original Rosie the Riveter. After being widowed at a young age she started a new career that led to many successful years with Southern Railroad. She was self-sufficient, from raising her children alone to continuing to live on her own until her death. A very special person, Mrs. Wood was caring and willing to do anything for anybody. She enjoyed gardening, especially growing flowers, and doing needlepoint. She loved big family Christmases with her family and traveling with her son and daughter-in-law. She was dearly loved by her family and will be greatly missed. Mrs. Wood will be buried beside her husband at Crest Lawn Memorial Park. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, January 13, 2022.
