George Kenneth Hargis, Sr.

George Kenneth Hargis Sr., age 76, passed away peacefully on April 8, 2025. A man of quiet strength, deep commitment, and enduring love, George’s life was a testament to the values he held dear: hard work, family, and faithfulness.

Born on March 10, 1949, George left home at just 16 years old, heading to the big city of Atlanta to forge his own path. It was there he met his beloved wife, Eleanor Paulette Hargis. Their love story spanned 55 years—a marriage full of devotion, resilience, and shared dreams.

George worked as a machinist at Pepsi-Cola for 38 years, earning the respect of his coworkers and community alike. Known for his strong work ethic and steady presence, he took pride in providing for his family and doing every job with excellence.

He is survived by his loving wife, Eleanor Paulette Hargis; daughters Kimberly DeLay / Hargis and Kamie Hargis; daughter-in-law Amie Hargis; and grandchildren Courtney DeLay, Chase DeLay, Josh Hargis, Chelsea Hargis.

George is also survived by his siblings: John Lewis (Wanda) Hargis, Dee (Lisa) Hargis, Roy (Linda) Hargis, and Mary Elizabeth (Mike) Simmons, along with many beloved nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his son, George Kenneth Hargis Jr.; granddaughter, Karen Ansley Martin, Samantha Dawn Hargis , Faith Emily Hargis , brother, Don Hargis; and sister, Ann Higgins, and mother and father William and Hazel Mae Hargis .

George’s legacy lives on through the family he loved so deeply and the example he set in both hardwork and family values.

His absence leaves a space that cannot be filled, but his memory will forever be treasured.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday, April 14, 2025 from 4:00pm - 7:00pm. 

Funeral services for Mr. Hargis will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday, April 15, 2025 from the chapel of Roy Davis Funeral Home, officiated by Pastor Brian Downing. Interment will follow at Crest Lawn Memorial Park.
