In Loving Memory of Donald Francia Pastor.
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Donald Pastor of Dallas, Ga., a beloved father, grandfather, dedicated husband, and esteemed member of the community. Born in Washington, DC in 1935, amidst the challenges of the Great Depression, Don's life journey was marked by resilience, service, love, and adventure.
In 1953, during the early years of the United States Air Force, Don enlisted and became a Medic, serving at various stations throughout the United States and Europe. His commitment to duty and compassion for others shone brightly during this period of his life.
Upon completing his service, Don ventured to Florida and enrolled at the University of Miami. It was there that he pursued his passion for education, earning a Bachelor of Art Education. Little did he know that this journey would lead to a lifelong partnership. In the hallowed halls of academia, he met Joanne O'Reilly, and their union of 58 years began.
The couple embarked on an adventurous journey, initially destined for Alaska. However, fate intervened in Carson City, Nevada, where they decided to pause their travels & return to Miami, the opposite of Alaska, upon learning of Joanne's pregnancy with their first child, a son, John. Despite this detour, their family continued to grow, welcoming a daughter, Ann Marie, also in Miami.
Their educational pursuits and commitment to knowledge took them to different corners of the United States. They secured teaching positions in Florida, pursued further studies at Florida State University, and delved into the realm of law at what is now Cal State Fullerton in California. The academic odyssey eventually led them back to Atlanta, Georgia, where they both earned their law degrees from Woodrow Wilson College of Law in 1982.
Throughout the years, Don and Joanne skillfully balanced their careers with family responsibilities. In the 2000s, they extended their caregiving to Joanne's father until his passing in 2001.
An accomplished & disciplined artist, Don could usually be found crafting an art piece: Usually a painting, a drawing or wood work of fascinating compositions.
Together, in their retirement. Don & Jomme rekindled their sense of adventure, to See a bit of the World together. With a sense of fulfillment and a thirst for exploration, they embraced retirement, traveling, volunteering and cherishing the simple joys of life.
In 2011, Don embraced the role of grandfather, bringing a new dimension of joy and love to his life. His legacy lives on through the memories of his family and the indelible impact he made on those fortunate enough to know him.
A man of integrity, compassion, artistic talent and unwavering dedication, Don Pastor leaves behind a legacy that will be cherished by all who had the privilege of sharing in his journey.
