Wilder L. “Bill” Spencer died December 16, 2008 at 83 years.He was born on October 15, 1923 in Atlanta and lived most of his life in the metro area.He attended Tech High School, Georgia Tech, and the then Atlanta Division of UGA, now Georgia State.He taught school for 30 years in Atlanta’s Northside High School where he was a “star” teacher, and later at Harper High, having volunteered to help integrate the Atlanta School system faculty.He also worked a second job at Georgia Tech. He is survived by his wife, Martha; daughter, Julie Thiman and husband Craig; sons, Keenan and his wife Daral, and Danny and wife Peggy of New Orleans.Also, his sister, Marguerite Storer, sister-in-law, Anne Roberts Groce and John of Arizona,; brother-in-law Charlton Roberts and wife Blanche of Atlanta, two grandchildren, a nephew and nieces. His many interest included; sailing, camping, Bluegrass music and especially wood working.He built their first home himself in Smyrna where the family lived for 30 years.The last 25 years he and Martha enjoyed their country home in Douglasville and recently lived at Sweetwater Springs Assisted Living in Lithia Springs.For years, he volunteered at Douglas Senior Center and received many citations for his work. A memorial service will be held at Roy Davis Funeral Home on December 20, 2008 at 11:00 AM.Contributions in Bill’s memory may be made to Habitat for Humanity, Atlanta Pet Rescue or a shelter of your choice.
