Arvel Ajaye O'Bryant

Arvel James “Ajaye” O'Bryant, 84, of Powder Springs, GA, passed away on Tuesday, August 20th, 2024. He was born on Thursday, October 19th, 1939, in Marble Hill, Ga.

A talented musician, AJaye was the lead of AJaye and the Swampcreek, the house band for 20 years at the Buckboard Country Music Showcase. He was inducted into the Georgia Country Music Hall of Fame twice and was named Entertainer of the Year by the Atlanta Society of Entertainers multiple times. AJaye opened for legends such as Merle Haggard, Garth Brooks, and collaborated with local artists like Travis Tritt and Mark Willis.

In addition to his musical talents, AJaye was also a skilled painter, taught art classes, and a craftsman at woodworking, he made knives, and worked as a tanner creating beautiful leather works.

He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Linda O'Bryant, children Thad O'Bryant (Suzanne), Uneida O'Bryant, Tye O'Bryant, Chris O'Bryant, sister Debbie (Gary) Mulkey, 12 grandchildren, and 23 great grandchildren.

Arvel was preceded in death by his father, Ralph O'Bryant, mother, Louise O'Bryant, and son, Kevin Pope, and his siblings Gwen O'Bryant and Othella Harris, along with 1 grandchild.

A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, August 27, 2024, at 2pm receiving guests from 1-2pm, with a visitation on Monday, August 26, 2024 from 5-8pm, both at Roy Davis Funeral Home in Austell, Ga. AJaye will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
