Archie Lee Greene Sr.

Archie was born on August 9th, 1945, in Lenoir, North Carolina to Rodolph and Julia Greene. He graduated from Washington-Irving High School, after graduation he began to work for Ghering Textiles. In 1966, he was drafted to join the United States Army where he served for 2 years. After his honorable discharge he continued to work at Ghering where he retired in 2007.

Archie met his beautiful and loving wife Sally in 1982 on the New York City “F” train. They began dating and were married on November 17, 1984 where they became a blended family of three boys and one girl, Archie Jr, Timothy, J.R. and Ana. In 1987 they had their daughter Monica.

They moved to Long Island 1989 where Archie began a long list of community services. He began coaching baseball and basketball for the Village of Hempstead PAL in 1991. He became the President of the Village of Hempstead PAL in 1993 and served through 2004. He was also a member of the Kiwanis Club where he also became President in 1997 through 1999. Archie also ran for the Board of Trustees for the Village of Hempstead in 2005 but did not obtain the office.

In 2003, the Village of Hempstead PAL created the Archie L. Greene Sr Hempstead PAL Scholarship award for exemplary example of how one should become a pillar in their community.

In 2007, Archie, Sally and Monica moved to Atlanta to be with their other children and grandchildren. Once arriving in GA, he began working for Bleakley Ford where he enjoyed selling to his customers. After fully retiring he became a part time school bus driver for Cobb County also volunteered at the Sweetwater Mission.

Archie is survived by his wife Sally, children Archie Jr, Timothy, Ana, J.R., and Monica; 16 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister Theon (Sally) and brother William Lee. He leaves a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who became family.
