A.C. Davis

December 18, 1934 — December 19, 2023

Rev. A.C. Davis, age 89, went to his long desired heavenly home on Tuesday, December 19, 2023, at WellStar Paulding Hospital.

A.C. was born on December 18, 1934, to Claud Davis and Eula Freeman Davis.  He grew up in Dallas, GA where he met his wife, Joan.  They were married for 65 years before she went to be home with the Lord in 2019.  Together they had 4 children, 9 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren.

During his life, A.C. was a heavy machine operator.  He was very proud of this skill and never shied away from hard work.  He was also a paint contractor in the construction industry for many years and during that time, he and Joan built and sold several houses.

Even with all these life skills, A.C.’s greatest achievement in his life was the day he was called to be a pastor.  This is the career he followed for more than 50 years of his life.  He was the pastor of many churches including Northside Baptist, Welcome Baptist, Ridgeway Baptist, Faith Baptist Temple, Post Oak Baptist, Eastside Baptist and then settled at Mt. Olivet Baptist.  During his time at these churches and in his life, A.C. made sure to spread the gospel of Jesus Christ to a lost and dying world.

When A.C. wasn’t preaching, he and Joan enjoyed travelling together.  They loved going to the beach and The Great Smokey Mountains.  He also enjoyed watching sports.  During Thanksgiving and Christmas, there was always a football game on and during the summer, you could count on the fact that he was watching The Atlanta Braves.  He was a long-time member of Dallas Lodge #182 F & AM. He was also a member of New Canaan Baptist Church in Dallas, GA, where he would attend church as much as possible until his passing.

A.C., also known as Pawpaw, later in life was a man of few words.  He was always present at any gathering and although he didn’t say much, you always knew he was listening.  Every so often, he would speak up and give some words of wisdom or you could ask him a question about the matter being discussed and he would wisely give his opinion. Seeing him sitting in his recliner, either feet propped up or legs crossed, with his family gathered around, will be enormously missed.

A.C. is survived by his children, Jill Shutley, Billy (Dale) Davis, Tommy (Kim) Pledger, Mark (Debbie) Davis; grandchildren, Duran (Leslie) Morrison, Matthew (Heather) Shutley, Leon (Heather) Nichols, Jeremy (Carrie) Hicks, Lann (Savannah) Pledger, Trevor (Daiden) Pledger, Michael (Caroline) Davis, Josh (Bethany) Hollis and Ms. Charlee Davis. 19 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren.  His brother Johnnie (Gail) Davis and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife and parents, A.C. is preceded in death by his sister and brother-in-law, G.W. (Imogene) Osborne and 2 great-great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be on Saturday, December 23, 2023, at 11 am in the Chapel of New Canaan Baptist Church.  Interment will follow at Paulding Memorial Gardens in Hiram, GA.  Jarrett Morrison, Noah Hicks, Jacob Shutley, Levi Hicks, Andrew Shutley and William Nichols will serve as pallbearers.
